Across the great blue divide lies a land of rich culture, picturesque landscapes, and rustic pride unlike any other. For one night only, the Howard County Concert Orchestra will capture the sights, sounds, and spirit of Italy as we usher in the New Year during La Dolce Vita. Bask in the beauty of Mascagni’s Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, embrace the rhythm during a classic performance of the Tarantella by Dance Connections Inc., and let your soul take flight during an operatic performance by mezzo soprano Denée Barr that captures the true essence of Italian artistry. The transcendent melodies of Verdi, Vivaldi, Rossini, and Puccini will welcome you to Italy as you take a journey through the art, history, and landscapes of Rome, Florence, Venice, the Amalfi Coast, Lake Cuomo, Sicily and beyond.

And of course, what viaggio would be complete without a tour guide. Your expert cicerone for the evening is WBJC’s own Jonathan Palevsky – a classical patron and phenomenal musician in his own right, Jonathan’s narration is guaranteed to make the perfect accompaniment as we navigate the fascinating history and culture of grand old Italia. To top it all off, our visitatore will be treated to a performance by one of Howard County’s own rising stars, violinist Lauren Yoon, as she traverse’s the dangerous passages of Paganini’s devilishly difficult La Campanella.

Attendees are invited to attend a post-concert reception featuring traditional Italian desserts – from start to finish, La Dolce Vita is sure to be a grand celebrazione of the anno nuovo.
